Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! Aaron and I had THREE Thanksgivings in two days this year. It was great. How could you ever get sick of stuffing and turkey? We loved also seeing our families. This is my favorite time of year because of all the family gatherings. Aaron and I are definitely blessed.


This last Saturday my dad, Aaron, Boa (our dog), and I went hiking. We had a great time and the weather was beautiful. We forgot how lucky we are in Southern Utah to see breathtaking views by just stepping out our door. It was also just great to get out, work off some of that turkey in our bellies, and have a fun family adventure. I was glad that my 5 month, bulging belly didn't slow me down! Plus, Boa loves walks. This was her first time in the mountains, she'll probably never be satisfied with just a trip around the block again! Thanks Dad for taking us!


Next, we went to the movie "Bolt" with the Croft family cousins and finished off with a pizza dinner at my grandparents. It was a fabulous weekend. Monday came too quick, but we are looking forward to seeing and spending more time with family this Christmas.

It's a Girl!

Today was my week 18 ultrasound. Aaron was unable to come to the doctor's office with me on this special occasion but the radiologist sent my mother and I home with a CD full of cute pictures and movies of our baby. The baby was full of life and was moving in every position. It was probably just posing for the camera! The heart rate was 138 beats per minute and the measurements of the baby proved that I am indeed due on the 18th of April. As you can see from these two pictures, we also have a little thumb sucker! We were hoping that the baby wouldn't be shy this time (this was our third ultrasound in 3 weeks) so that we could determine the gender. Luckily, with all the movement the baby was making it was easy to determine that it had "no boy parts." Thus, we are pretty sure I'm having a little girl!

This Year's Frightful Halloween

Earlier this week Aaron and I went to our ward Halloween Party. Along with dinner, games, and pumpkin carving, they had a costume contest. Guess who walked away with the Best Couple Award? That's right, your very own Aaron and Jodi Dahlin. We were the Ghostbusters this Halloween. I made the costumes (painted the logos) and Aaron created the gear. It was a big hit. Our dog was a cute little pumpkin. Boa didn't like her costume much but she loved to go trick-or-treating with Daddy (Aaron). Aaron and I were really looking forward to a fun filled night this Halloween. Instead we got a frightful morning. About 4 a.m. Halloween morning our dog started whining to be let outside to go "potty." Aaron was up most of the night doing homework so I got out of bed to take her out. On our way back inside I started to bleed down my leg. I have always heard that bleeding is one of the first signs of miscarriage so I panicked. I yelled to Aaron and he gave me a priesthood blessing. I researched "bleeding in the second trimester" online before I told Aaron that we should probably go to the E.R. When we got to the hospital at about 5 a.m. they let us listen to the heart beat--It had one! They also had me take a urine sample and took my blood for testing. They they scheduled me for the first ultrasound that morning, which was to be around 7:30-8 a.m. Aaron sleep that time away and I ate pudding and drank lots of water to fill my bladder for the ultrasound. A scarecrow came into our room--I forgot that it was Halloween until then--and took me away to radiology. We saw the baby during the ultrasound. It was lying on it's belly kicking it's legs. Man, it was so cute. The man preforming the ultrasound said that my placenta looked low, but he didn't know much else about diagnosing me. They took us back to the E.R. room and the E.R. Doctor came in. He was not very empathetic or very helpful. All we really found out it that it was a "threatened miscarriage" and that I was to be on bed rest for a while. They told me to call my OB/GYN and let him know what was going on. We did a couple hours later when his office was open. Aaron left a message and Dr. Gatherum himself called me back. He said, "Jodi, I saw your ultrasound pictures, but I didn't know that it was because you were in the E.R. this morning!" He diagnosed me with Partial (Marginal) Placenta Previa. This is difficult for an active person like me, but I will do anything for the health of my baby. The doctor said at this early stage in the pregnancy their isn't anything they can do but hope and wait that things with fix themselves. I have a doctor's appointment this coming Thursday (Nov. 6th). I will update everyone then. Anyone, my father and father-in-law gave me a blessing Halloween night. I'm glad to have a righteous and supportive family.
